Where did the past two months go? Hard to believe it’s already August! We had a very rainy week up here in northern Michigan and I know that everyone’s flowers & vegetables were very happy to have some.
This week’s CSA was full of vegetables that I’m very familiar with – except for the summer squash, but I think that will end up being easy to use up. As you can see, we brought home the following
- onions
- garlic
- tomatoes (cherry and a bigger one)
- cilantro
- swiss chard
- purple & green peppers
- 1 jalapeno
- green beans
- summer squash
- cucumber
- a basil plant (which is now sitting in a glass of water on our kitchen windowsill, happy)
With band camp all week, my cooking has been a bit limited, but I thankfully have only one more day! I plan on playing around with many of these veggies this weekend, between preserving (yes, you read that right) and cooking.
Hope all you CSA-ers out there also found some great stuff in your shares this week.
Anything in there you’re excited to have/use/try?
I’m totally excited to receive an Armenian cucumber and challenged by a large bunch of okra.
All of those peppers would be delicious in here…http://inherchucks.com/2011/11/04/chicken-chili/. The onions will be great in that also 🙂
Thanks for linking up!
I haven’t has chicken chili in the longest time…that’s a crockpot staple for me in the winter. Great idea, though 🙂
YES! I think I know what we’ll be making tomorrow for dinner. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
My pleasure! And it lasts for days (leftovers RULE!)
Leftovers become lunches in our house, and are perfect if they reheat well, which most chicken chili’s do.
pattypan squash!! those are delicious! i’m on the hunt for a fabulous summer squash recipe to post on my blog, so check for it in the next couple weeks! you’ll have something to do with them 🙂
